The poignancy of Lincoln in the Bardo lies in Saunders’ deceptive writing skills. He’d never written a novel till now and in his own words he doesn’t know much about United States’ 16th president Abraham Lincoln and he admits it without any qualms and in such inexplicable transparency he amalgamates the grief of two worlds. Saunders is an American master of short stories caught by me in his moment of vulnerability. Were we not? If not, who spoke? Who heard” Every soul is unguided struggling to make sense of death aroused by the love of the living. Vollman and Reverend Everly Thomas leading up a huge pack of spirits take onto them to save little Willie in death only to witness something devastatingly extraordinary and amidst rotten flesh rose the fragrance of hope & wishes. ![]() Not being born is more tragic than being dead is one of the superficial epiphanies protruded while reading George Saunders’ ‘Lincoln in the Bardo’Ībraham Lincoln’s Eleven year old son Willie dies in the wake of the civil war and goes into the Bardo ( A Tibetan idea of purgatory, where souls don’t know that they’re dead yet) while his body lay quitely in a marble crypt at Oak town cemetery.
